The Spine — Living Story Summary

One line per scene, drawn from each scene's notes. Keep your scene notes current and The Spine keeps the synopsis current.

A scene with empty notes shows its title as a placeholder. Edit a scene's notes in the Outline tab to update this summary.

Kill Your Darlings Vault

Deleted scene and chapter text lands here instead of vanishing. Restore a snippet, or let the vault surface a discarded line that might fit your current scene.

Suggested Darling

One of your stronger discarded sentences, in case it fits the scene you're writing now. Lines are ranked by an offline craft score — rhythm, concrete detail, strong verbs, no filler — never by AI. The score only decides what to show you first; the judgment stays yours.

No suggestion yet. Save some darlings first.

Sensory Deprivation Mode

Blanks out everything except the sentence you are writing. Every other sentence (split on . ! ?) blurs into shadow but stays there — move the cursor back and it sharpens again, so nothing is ever locked away from you. Your words save into the chosen chapter as you write. Press Esc to exit.

What Chronicle Loom Is

Chronicle Loom takes an idea through planning, drafting, worldbuilding, and collaboration while keeping the project backed up in the cloud.

Start with a small win

Create a project, name your book, add one chapter, and create one scene. You can explore the rest after your first piece of writing is saved.

Choose your workflow

Outline deliberately, discover the story while drafting, build a story bible, or use a focused Unraveled session when you need pressure.

Your book stays yours

Normal drafting autosaves normally. Unraveled sessions are isolated from regular chapters and scenes, so experimental runs cannot overwrite your book.

Build with other writers

Find writers, send friend requests, chat, join contests, and enter shared writing rooms when you want another person in the scene.

Before You Begin

Why use Chronicle Loom?

Keep the manuscript beside its working parts: chapters, scenes, a story bible, maps, recovery tools, focused writing modes, and collaboration.

What makes it different?

Unraveled gives you four isolated pressure modes. Saved run manuscripts, collaborative story mechanics, The Spine, Kill Your Darlings recovery, and worldbuilding tools keep the work moving into the book.

Do I own my content?

Yes. All original content you create belongs to you: books, poems, scenes, characters, settings, prompts, notes, manuscripts, and other creative work. Chronicle Loom does not claim ownership or authorship of your creations. The final Terms and Privacy pages should document this promise formally.

Is Chronicle Loom free?

The current beta is free to use. Final pricing has not been set. If paid plans or limits are introduced, they should be announced clearly before they affect existing users.

How much storage do I get?

There is no final public storage allowance yet. Text projects are lightweight, but covers, backups, and future media storage may have separate limits. The app should show the current limit before a user uploads or saves large files.

How are projects kept safe?

Normal drafts autosave separately from Unraveled, cloud sync ties projects to an account, rolling backups protect earlier versions, and manual exports give you an independent copy. Always keep an occasional downloaded backup outside the browser.

What if I lose my account?

Use the Recover Account flow with the email address on the account. Password-reset email delivery depends on the configured email provider. Once access is restored, cloud projects can be restored from the account.

Can a deleted account be restored?

Do not assume it can. Account deletion may remove authentication access and associated cloud data. Contact support immediately, and keep downloaded backups because restoration depends on retention settings and whether the deletion has completed.

Your Chronicle Loom Toolkit

Outline and Draft

Create chapters and scenes, write synopses, attach scenes to chapters, draft prose, and keep private notes that never appear in the reader's copy.

Preview and Reader's Copy

Preview the book in reading order, inspect a table of contents, and export clean prose without notes, scene labels, or planning markers.

Organize and Find

Reorder chapters, move scenes between chapters, search the whole project, and locate a character, monster, goal, spell, or plot beat quickly.

Story Bible

Use Plot, Characters, Planning, Monsters, Species, Playable Races, locations, spells, timelines, maps, and relationship notes to keep the world consistent.

The Spine

The Spine turns one-line scene notes into a living synopsis of the full book. Keep notes current and the running summary updates with them.

Kill Your Darlings

Deleted chapters, scenes, and worldbuilding entries go to a recovery vault instead of vanishing immediately. Restore them whenever you change your mind.

Focus and Progress Tools

Goals and milestones

Set word or completion targets, track progress, and celebrate important milestones such as your first 10,000 words or finishing a draft.

Sensory Deprivation

Write with the rest of the interface hidden. Only the sentence under your cursor stays sharp; the rest blur into shadow without ever being locked or lost.

Prompt Vault

Draw a random prompt, skip to another, or copy one into a new scene when you have no opening yet.

Writing statistics

See project words, chapter and scene counts, session time, today's words, streaks, reading time, and writing history.

Maps and worldbuilding

Place locations and events on an interactive map, record spells and lore, and use visual references while planning the story.

Fonts, themes, and mobile layout

Adjust the reading experience, switch themes, and use a phone-friendly layout with reachable actions and dedicated mobile navigation.

The Unraveled Modes Experimental

Unraveled is a separate creative pressure system. It never replaces or overwrites your normal Chronicle Loom drafts. A run saves only when its rules are successfully completed.

Solo Unraveled

Choose a timer and word goal. Keep typing through the run. If you stop too long, the temporary attempt fades and is erased; surviving creates a saved manuscript checkpoint.

Braided Threads

Each writer owns a parallel storyline. Shared sprint progress fills tension until the threads are forced to meet at a scripted checkpoint that everyone must reconcile.

Duet Weave

Two writers share one scene in split panes. Each person controls only their own character's point of view while updates appear in real time.

Tug-of-War

Two writers or teams write toward opposing outcomes. Their word contributions pull a shared meter, and the direction at the end determines the story's result.

Pressure rules

Timers, word goals, turn timers, idle grace periods, fading text, checkpoint thresholds, and failure rules can be tuned for the selected mode.

Saved manuscripts

Successful runs are stored separately from your book. Open a saved run later, read it, edit it, delete it, or begin another run from its material.

Social, Contests, and Community Experimental beta

Find writers

Search by username or display name, send and cancel friend requests, accept requests, and open direct chats with friends.

Community Contests

Create public challenges with a prompt, mode, word goal, and sign-up list. Choose a normal writing event or one of the four Unraveled modes.

Discord community

Use the Discord link in Social for feedback, beta testing, contest recruitment, bug reports, feature requests, and community discussion.

Safety and moderation

Chat includes moderation filters and reporting tools. Never share passwords, recovery codes, or private book material in public conversations.

Protecting Your Work

Autosave

Normal Chronicle Loom editing saves independently as you work. This behavior is not affected by Unraveled failures.

Cloud sync

Signing in connects projects to your account so they can be restored across devices. Sync conflicts should be reviewed instead of blindly overwriting either version.

Backups and restore points

Create downloadable backups, use rolling backups, restore a previous version, and keep an exported copy before major changes.

Best practice

Before a major update or migration, create a backup and verify that you can restore it. Keep at least one backup outside the browser.
